A team of researchers from IISLAB was invited to participate in an expert seminar at the University of Zagreb. The visit was hosted by Prof. Fausto Ferreira and his team, whose research is conducted within the MARBLE Centre of Excellence for Robotics.
Outstanding research is being carried out at the centre in the field of autonomous robotic systems, with particular attention being given to underwater drones. During the visit, opportunities for connecting this research with the expertise and experience of IISLAB in artificial intelligence were discussed.
Robotic systems developed at MARBLE are already being deployed in a wide range of real-world applications. The diversity and practical relevance of these applications were found to be particularly impressive. The results of the team’s work were presented, while valuable insight was also provided into the organisation of their research activities and the implementation of their projects.
A highly dynamic and results-oriented research environment was observed throughout the visit. Comparable conditions are still rarely encountered in Slovakia, particularly with regard to the pace at which research is conducted and innovative ideas are transformed into tangible outcomes. It was therefore recognised that further progress, stronger commitment, and a more ambitious approach will be required to reduce this gap.
